Life is full of ups and downs. One of the downs we come across in life is hopelessness. Losing hope weakens us and makes us feel like there’s no point in trying.
Thankfully, we can fight feelings of hopelessness whenever they come. But how?
Hope when Things look Hopeless
Here’s how you can find hope and overcome despair:
1. Find Hope in God
When things and situations feel hopeless, remember that God is our hope. At one point David felt hopeless and downcast. He wrote in a Psalm.
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him. For the help of His countenance (Psalms 42:5)
See how he encourages himself to put Hope in God. We can learn from the verse and remember to rely and put our hope in God no matter what we are going through – our hope comes from Him.
Find rest, o my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him (Psalms 62:5)
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God (Psalms 146: 5)
2. Find Hope in Prayer
God is aware of any feelings of hopeless that may feel. But, He wants you to talk to Him about those feelings and invites us to take everything to Him in prayer.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6)
Don’t hesitate to seek God in prayer and ask Him to give you hope where there is a feeling of hopeless.
…..rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer (Romans 12:12)
Pray for perseverance to endure the hopeless situation and deliverance from the despair.
3. Find Hope in God’s Word
The Word of God is full of hope for the believer. Many scriptures confirm that we get hope through the Word.
In Jeremiah 29:11, Gods says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”
Read the Bible when you are feeling hopeless. Doing so means we are choosing faith over fear.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope (Psalms 130:5)
4. Find Hope in God’s Strength and Power
Find hope by reflecting on God’s power - the exceeding greatness of God’s power!
…and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (Ephesians 1:19)
Doing so gives you courage as you understand that God’s power is above whatever situation bringing you despair. God’s power is sufficient to end hopelessness.
When life is full of despair, we can find hope in God, in His Word, in His power and through prayer.
