We face choices of all sizes daily. Decisions thus make a huge part of our lives. Some are easy to make especially those that are downright on whether something is right or wrong.
In his Word, God gives us several ways to help us know what is right. So we know that we should obey all the clear guidelines in the Word of God.
Yet, there are times when knowing what the right decision is isn’t clear.
When a choice we should make is not very clear, God gives us various principles to guide us in our decision making.
Biblical Principles for Solid Decision Making
Whatever type of decision we need to make, we have biblical principles that can help make the right decision all the time.
We have outlined 3 major principles to help you make the right decision every time.
1. Be Guided by the Word of God
Allow God to direct you through the wisdom He provides us in the Bible. In Psalms 119:105, it is written,
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Like the Bible states in the verse above, the word of God is a light that shines through the steps we need to make in life. For the decisions we need to make, we can rely on the Word to know what to do.
And when we finally get to be guided by the Word to know what to do, we need to accept what the Lord has shown us and do what is right in the specific situation. It may not be easy but the promise of God is that acknowledging His guidance and obeying His Word will have us reap blessings in our life.
The word of God also says, we should,
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trusting fully in God enables Him to direct us in the right way and choices we should make.
To make good decisions, we should also immerse ourselves in prayer. Praying about the choices we need to make keep us closely connected to the Lord. This way, we become closer and closer to the His Spirit and sensitive to His leading in every decision we need to make.
Philippians 4: 6-8 says,
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The Bible also encourages us to ask for wisdom from God and we can be confident that when we ask, God will provide the wisdom we need to make the right choice every time we ask him.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (James 1:5)
3. Seek Godly Council and Wisdom
Sometimes we may find ourselves faced with stuff that is too big a decision to make and comprehend. It is at this point we need assistance from other people to help us walk and work through the different aspects of making the right choices.
Having other people at your side to help counsel you is wise and godly.
Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established (Proverbs 15:22)
For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety (proverbs 24:6)
