Finding God’s Purpose in Your Pain: A Lesson from Joseph

Finding God’s Purpose in Your Pain: A Lesson from Joseph

Tuesday, March 25, 2025

Have you ever felt betrayed, mistreated, or abandoned? Maybe you’ve faced hardship that seemed unfair or even cruel. In Genesis 50:20 (NKJV), Joseph speaks words that are as powerful as they are comforting:

“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

Joseph’s story is one of deep suffering and ultimate redemption. Sold into slavery by his own brothers, wrongfully imprisoned, and forgotten for years, he had every reason to be bitter. Yet, when he finally stood before those who had wronged him, he did not seek revenge—he saw God’s hand at work.

God’s Sovereignty in Our Struggles

When we face trials, it’s easy to focus on the pain and unfairness of it all. But Joseph’s life teaches us that what others intend for harm, God can use for our good and His greater purpose. Your struggles may feel overwhelming, but they do not have the final say—God does. He is always working behind the scenes, weaving even the darkest moments into a greater plan that we may not fully understand yet.

Perhaps you’re going through a difficult time right now. Maybe you’ve been betrayed by a close friend, lost a job, or are facing a personal crisis. While it may seem impossible to see beyond the pain, Joseph’s story reminds us that God is not finished with us yet.

How to Cope When Life Feels Unfair

If you’re struggling with a situation where you feel wronged or hurt, consider these biblical principles:

• Trust in God’s Plan – Even when you don’t understand, believe that God is working things out for your good (Romans 8:28).

• Forgive Those Who Hurt You – Joseph forgave his brothers, and through that forgiveness, healing was possible (Ephesians 4:32).

• Stay Faithful – No matter the circumstances, continue seeking God, praying, and living according to His word (Galatians 6:9).

• Look for God’s Hand – Even in pain, there are signs of His presence and purpose in your life (Jeremiah 29:11).

• Find Strength in Community – Surround yourself with fellow believers who will pray for and support you (Hebrews 10:24-25).
